On June 26th, I was delighted to attend the launch of a Community Alert Scheme by the Mount Merrion Residents Association.

There has been a huge surge in crime and burglaries in South Dublin this year, mirrored by the CSO’s National Crime Statistics which show an 8% rise in burglary and other related offences since March 2014.

The Community Alert Scheme is a community safety programme aimed at reducing the opportunities for crime and burglaries to occur, and works on the principle of shared responsibility for crime prevention and reduction. It was introduced by the MMRA and involves the erection of community alert signs, the distribution of window stickers and the distribution of an information pack throughout the Mount Merrion area.
